Kedah MB tells Mahfuz to 'dream on' after 10pct vote swing remark

Kedah caretaker menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has told the state opposition to “dream on” regarding capturing the state in the upcoming state election.

Sanusi (above, left) reportedly said achieving a 10 percent vote swing is an uphill task for Pakatan Harapan and that Malay voters are not easily swayed.

“A vote swing of 10 percent is difficult in politics, especially given the voting patterns in Kedah. Malay voters are not easy to sway.

“Never mind, keep on dreaming,” Berita Harian quoted the PAS lawmaker telling reporters after attending an event in Langkawi, last night.

Sanusi was responding to Kedah Harapan chairperson Mahfuz Omar’s recent remarks that the Harapan-BN combo could seize the state from Perikatan Nasional if a 10 percent swing in votes happens.

The Kedah state assembly has 36 seats, with PN holding 20 seats (PAS-14, Bersatu-6); Harapan 10 seats (PKR-five, Amanah-three, DAP-two); BN two seats (Umno-two), and Pejuang (two).

Two state seats were left vacant after Gurun assemblyperson Johari Abdul of PKR vacated his seat on Dec 18 last year when he was appointed Dewan Rakyat speaker and following the death of Belantek assemblyperson Mohd Isa Shafie on June 14.

The Kedah state assembly was dissolved on June 28 and an election must be held within 60 days of the dissolution.
