Wan Saiful has Penang CM ambitions - Teo

Bersatu supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan has been accused of harbouring ambitions of being the next Penang chief minister.

This follows Wan Saiful's speculation that DAP was planning to give the job to Steven Sim, a federal deputy minister.

In a statement last night, DAP publicity chief Teo Nie Ching turned the tables on Wan Saiful by asking him to state whether he wanted to be chief minister and, if not, who Perikatan Nasional (PN) will nominate.

"I have been told by many that Wan Saiful himself has ambitions to be the Penang chief minister. That is how confident he is," said Teo, like Wan Saiful, who did not provide proof.

Teo (above) also urged Gerakan, a PN component party, to state if they endorsed Wan Saiful’s “ambitions” and whether the latter had to join Gerakan to qualify.

“Is Gerakan even willing to allow Wan Saiful to join Gerakan and be part of their leadership?” she asked.

Gerakan will be fielding 19 candidates in the upcoming Penang legislative assembly election, up from 13 during the 2018 elections.

This meant that Gerakan will make up the bulk of PN’s 40 candidates for Penang.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke had previously brushed off Wan Saiful's speculation by urging him to mind his own business.
