Selangor Pakatan Harapan Youth chief Danial Al-Rashid Haron is being touted as a potential successor to Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud as the coalition's candidate for Seri Serdang.

According to an Amanah source, Danial (above) is on a shortlist of possible candidates to defend the state seat that Harapan has won since 2013.

"Danial is Siti Mariah's special officer. After she decided not to contest, his name popped up, and he is well known by locals," the source told Malaysiakini.

Siti Mariah, the incumbent Selangor state executive council member, is expected not to contest in the upcoming state polls to make way for fresh faces.

She won the Seri Serdang seat in 2018, following a two-term stint as the MP for Kota Raja.

When contacted, Danial said he was leaving it to the party leadership to decide whether he will contest in Seri Serdang.

"There isn't a final decision yet. Everything is up to the leadership," he said.

He added that if fielded, he will work hard to defend the seat.

Harapan won Seri Serdang with a convincing five-digit majority in the 2018 general election.

Muda secretary-general Amir Hariri Abd Hadi will be among those vying for the seat during the polls on Aug 12.
