Annuar Musa's son quits Umno

Ketereh Umno Youth chief Afiq Amani Annuar has resigned from the party with immediate effect.

The decision was announced by his father, the expelled Umno leader Annuar Musa, today along with several others who are also leaving the party.

The announcement was made during an event with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang at Annuar’s residence in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

Afiq’s exit is joined by the entire 20-member committee of the Cabang Tiga Haji Musa Umno branch, along with other Umno leaders.

These include former Ipoh mayor Sirajuddin Salleh, former Natural Resources Ministry deputy secretary-general Mohd Ibrahim Abu Bakar, and former Bagan Datuk Umno Youth chief Nik Mohammad Azli Nik Ariffin.

Meanwhile, Afiq stated that starting today, he will take a break from politics but will support Perikatan Nasional in the ongoing state elections.

Also present were PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan and Bachok MP Syahir Sulaiman.

Meanwhile, when asked whether he was forced to leave Umno, Afiq said his decision was made entirely of his own accord without being influenced by anyone else, including his father.

He explained that he decided this after seeing Umno straying further and further from its original principles.

“After several months of being the Ketereh Umno Youth chief, I carried out my responsibilities, but at the same time, I saw that Umno was deviating from its original struggle.

“It became evident when Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi defended Lim Guan Eng’s statement event though it was clearly racist.

“Furthermore, Umno was seen sidelining its coalition allies MCA and MIC, while embracing new ones like DAP,” Afiq said.

He said these issues caused him to no longer wish to remain in Umno.

“I am already an adult and I was not coerced by anyone into the actions I took today, including my father. If it were true that I wanted to follow my father’s struggle, I would have left the party from the beginning,” he added.
