Amirudin sworn in as Selangor MB for second term

Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairperson Amirudin Shari was sworn in as the state’s menteri besar for the second term today.

Amirudin, who is the Sungai Tua assemblyperson, took the oath of office, loyalty, and secrecy before Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah at Istana Alam Shah, Klang, at 11.25am.

Also present at the swearing-in ceremony was Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.

On Aug 12, Harapan-BN succeeded in forming the state government after jointly winning 34 out of 56 seats in the Selangor state legislative assembly.

Of the 34, DAP won 15, PKR won 12, Amanah won five, BN won two seats, while Perikatan Nasional won 22 seats.

Amirudin was recently elected as the Sungai Tua assemblyperson for the fourth term, winning by a 5,185 vote majority.

He is also the PKR vice-president and Gombak MP.

Harapan insiders previously told Malaysiakini that Amirudin was among three names submitted to the Selangor palace for the menteri besar's post.

The list allegedly included Seri Setia assemblyperson Fahmi Ngah, who is perceived to be aligned with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and Amirudin’s former political aide and Tanjung Sepat assemblyperson Borhan Aman Shah.

Selangor is the last state to swear in a menteri besar since the elections as the ceremony was delayed due to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah undergoing a medical procedure overseas.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new state executive councillors will take place at 2pm today.
