PARLIAMENT | A Perikatan Nasional MP has once again questioned why opposition MPs have yet to receive any constituency development allocation from the federal government.
Earlier this year, the government said it would provide the allocation to opposition MPs once an official discussion is held between the two parties.
“How can we empower the rakyat if the government and the leaders do not respect the rights of the rakyat?
“Once again, I want to ask the government, when will they give the allocation that is supposed to be distributed to the rakyat through the opposition parliamentarians?” asked Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PN-Sik) in the Dewan Rakyat today, while debating the mid-term review of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
He reminded that the allocation is not for the personal use of the MPs but it is for the benefit of the rakyat.
Opposition MPs have consistently brought up this issue in the Dewan Rakyat since the beginning of the year.
On April 25, Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof said he had yet to receive an official application from the opposition bloc to discuss the issue of financial allocations for its MPs.
He said although he met PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan on the matter, it was an unofficial meeting.

Khlir Mohd Nor (PN-Ketereh) also urged for fairer allocations as he is facing problems in maintaining his service centre and paying his employees.
He said he also has to fork out his own money when he attends funerals in his constituency.
“When someone dies - about five to seven a day where there are about 300,000 residents in my area - I have to give my own money.
“I hope Tambun (Prime Minister Anwar) will listen to what I have to say,” he said.
