Cops probe DAP MP for allegedly misinterpreting Quran

Bukit Aman is investigating Ipoh Timor MP Howard Lee for allegedly making his own interpretations of verses from the Quran.

Perak police chief Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the investigation was referred to the police headquarters as the initial report on the matter was made in Kuala Lumpur.

Hence the Classified Crime Investigation Unit of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department will be carrying out the investigation, he added.

The Perak police, he said, had received another report made by NGO Jalinan Bersatu Sahabat (Jabat) yesterday, requesting an investigation and action against Lee (above) for allegedly insulting Islam.

“In Perak, we only received one report in relation to him and we refer to the original report made at Jalan Tun Razak (police station).

“This case is also being investigated by Bukit Aman’s Classified Crime Investigation Unit," he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian, following a press conference at the parking lot of the Police Contingent Headquarters Perak earlier today.

Perak Jabat president Amiruddin Mohd Daud reportedly said that Lee’s actions were a deliberate insult to Islam considering that the lawmaker was not Muslim, and had interpreted a verse in the Quran which touched on 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues.

Similarly, Perak PAS Youth chief Hafez Sabri said that the DAP leader had made a shallow interpretation of verse 59, surah An-Nisa through a video uploaded to Lee’s TikTok account.
