The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has launched two ‘Jualan Rahmah’ sales in Pasir Gudang, Johor, this weekend, in an immediate response to complaints of basic supplies shortage.

When contacted, its deputy minister Fuziah Salleh said she is currently overseas but had responded "within seven minutes" to an appeal by Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim earlier this morning.

"I responded to his (Hassan) message within seven minutes even though I'm abroad. I told him I will contact the Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry director (Lilis Saslinda Purnomo).

"The director has also responded," Fuziah (above) told Malaysiakini.

"I don't understand why he still shared the message (to the media). It’s not like I ignored him," she added.

Hassan, in his message to Fuziah which was also shared with the media this afternoon, said residents of Pasir Gudang are angry as they were not able to buy any local rice, cooking oil, eggs and sugar.

"Please ministry, help us here in Pasir Gudang. Either do a Jualan Rahmah or send enough supplies (to shops)," said the PKR MP.

Fuziah further said Hassan was informed by the state director that two ‘Jualan Rahmah’ sales will be held at Hwa Tai Kipmart Pasir Gudang today and tomorrow.

She said another sale will also be organised next Saturday from 9am to 11am at Taman Pasir Putih futsal court, aside from monitoring of basic supplies at other local shops in the area.
