BN support in Pelangai still 'unsatisfactory' - Wan Rosdy

PELANGAI BY-ELECTION | The level of support for BN in Pelangai is still at “unsatisfactory levels”, according to reports, the coalition’s elections director Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail has cautioned.

“As the elections director, I get a lot of reports, and the latest one is still not in our favour. Politics is very fluid.

“If we make a mistake or slack off, the support will swing the other way,” Wan Rosdy (above), who is also Pahang menteri besar, told the BN machinery at the campaign trail in Kampung Jawi Jawi, Bentong.

It is unclear whether Wan Rosdy was stating a fact or psyching the BN machinery to work harder to gain support for the Oct 7 by-election.

Also present at the event were Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman and BN candidate Amizar Abu Adam.

The by-election for the Pelangai state seat is being held following the death of its incumbent Johari Harun in a plane crash in Elmina, Shah Alam, Selangor on Aug 17.

Johari won the seat by 4,048 votes in the last general election, defeating candidates from Perikatan Nasional, Pakatan Harapan, and Pejuang.

This coming by-election will witness a three-way clash between Amizar, PN’s Kasim Samat, and independent Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli.

Meanwhile, Wan Rosdy, who is also an Umno vice-president, hoped that BN could win the seat with an even bigger majority.

This is especially when BN is now working with Pakatan Harapan, he noted. Wan Rosdy further expressed confidence in getting more than 4,000 votes from the non-Malays in the constituency.

“I’m very confident that the more than 4,000 non-Malays will vote for us (BN).

“But the question should be on whether they come out to vote on polling day. Some of them (voters) may be residing outside Pelangai as well.

“So, what can we do? We have to go and seek the voters and try to find a way to bring them out (to vote),” he said, adding that he would personally work on bringing out voters on polling day.
