Saifuddin explains why Muhyiddin being probed on 3R, denies lack of SOP

PARLIAMENT | Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has slammed former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin for claiming that the police do not have a fixed standard operating procedure (SOP) when it comes to its investigations into issues pertaining to royalty, religion, race (3R).

This came after Muhyiddin (Perikatan Nasional - Pagoh) alleged in the Dewan Rakyat today that the police would call in anyone who speaks about 3R issues, regardless of the context.

He then divulged that he was “afraid to speak now” after claiming that he had been summoned by the police five times on 3R topics.

In his supplementary question, the PN chairperson said there had never been an inspector-general of police who said 3R issues are off-limits until now.

Therefore, he asked Saifuddin to explain current top cop Razarudin Husain’s statements to refrain from 3R issues.

In response, Saifuddin clarified that the police only conduct investigations when there are reports lodged on issues that are believed to be seditious.

He then detailed reasons why Muhyiddin was investigated by the police on 3R issues.

“What can’t be said? Voting for Pakatan Harapan is dangerous because they were sponsored by the Jews. That’s not allowed.

“On Sept 17, 2022, at 5pm, a complaint was made about Pagoh’s (Muhyiddin) speech during Ceramah Mega PN Best on Sept 16, 2022, at Padang Bukit Muar, Parit Jawa. This was mentioned. So the police opened an investigation because there was a complaint.

“If you want to speak about the Malay race, Islam as a pure religion, go ahead. But when it comes to ‘the danger of Harapan for sponsoring Jewish groups’ and causing ‘Christianisation’ in Malaysia, the police will investigate.

“When the police investigate, Tan Sri (Muhyiddin) is being called and there is nothing insulting about being called to the police station, just leave a statement or two then you can go home. It is statements like this that the police will investigate,” Saifuddin stressed.

On Nov 18 last year, Muhyiddin claimed that a remark attributed to him that Harapan is a “Jewish agent” has been taken out of context.

Muhyiddin not alone

Saifuddin also cited other examples, including a statement by Abdul Hadi Awang (PN - Marang) who alleged that the Harapan government, in its 22 months of governing the country, had attempted to take apart the Federal Constitution, get rid of Islam and challenge the Malays’ special rights.

In addition, he said that Hadi had once again touched on 3R issues during his closing speech at the 69th PAS Muktamar yesterday.

“Marang (Hadi) said it again, that 3R issues should be applied to matters that threaten Islam and the law and not about taking action against those who advise the government or the people about 3R.

“There is no problem with offering advice but when it is mentioned that the act is challenging Islam, Allah, and the rulers, but (at the same time) it doesn’t say who is challenging, then what is this about?

“It was in this context, that the IGP gave his advice (not to touch 3R issues).”

In a related development, Saifuddin revealed that the police have opened 104 investigation papers involving 3R matters and they involve politicians from both sides of the divide.

“The government’s stance is clear, we do not allow any statements, postings or publications that are against the existing laws.

“This includes the Federal Constitution, Penal Code, Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and the Sedition Act 1948.”
