BERSATU AGM | Delegates at the Bersatu national assembly today unanimously rejected Muhyiddin Yassin's decision not to defend the party presidency when leadership polls are held next year.

They also rejected Muhyiddin’s plans to convene a meeting to find a successor or that this assembly would be the former prime minister’s last.

This occurred earlier during debates by the delegates over the policy speech given by Muhyiddin yesterday. At one point, a motion was raised to endorse Muhyiddin’s speech, except for the aforementioned matters.

Bersatu information chief Razali Idris, in his winding-up speech, said delegates were not trying to brownnose the president.

“Why do we want to do so? He’s not the prime minister. We support because he is a good person. He did not steal. He is not involved at all in A&W,” said Razali.

Towards the tail end of Muhyiddin’s speech yesterday, he announced that he will not be defending his position when party elections are held late next year.

Muhyiddin, who co-founded the party in 2016, said it was necessary to hand over the reins to a new leader.

This was met by howls of protests from the floor. Under Muhyiddin, Bersatu scored its best-ever election result in 2022, winning 31 seats in the Dewan Rakyat.

Following this, the party’s supreme council held an emergency meeting last night and resolved that Muhyiddin should defend his position at the party polls.
