Bersatu has condemned Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham for alleging that the party and PAS fanned the flames behind the fire that occurred at his home in Perak early yesterday.

In a statement today, Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said it was irresponsible for Ngeh to link the party and its ally PAS to the attack.

He said Muslims will react on their own volition should outsiders try to meddle in Islamic affairs, and they do not need instigation to do so.

“It was irresponsible for Ngeh to link Bersatu and PAS in this incident.

“He should be reminded that when it comes to Islamic affairs, outsiders who have nothing to do (with the religion) should not interfere. Because, when there is interference, Muslims will rise without having to be instigated.

“So, instead of pointing fingers, he (Ngeh) should be sorry and apologise,” Hamzah (above) added.

Swift investigation

The Bersatu leader was responding to Ngeh’s press conference yesterday, where the Perak DAP leader accused Perikatan Nasional components PAS and Bersatu of fanning tensions that led to the fire, following the brouhaha over his remark related to the Syariah Court.

The 2.50am incident on Wednesday saw Ngeh’s house in Ayer Tawar, Manjung attacked with a fire bomb, believed to be a Molotov cocktail.

There were no casualties in the incident, but the blaze destroyed one of Ngeh’s cars and damaged two others. His house was also partially damaged.

Hamzah also condemned the arson, calling it an unacceptable act.

He called for a speedy investigation and the arrest of its perpetrators.

“Police have to get those responsible for this attack because it did not only go against the law, but had also violated the way of life practised in this country where we have been living together in peace and harmony,” he said.
