Starbucks outlet in Sabah vandalised with 'boikot, Free Palestine' graffiti

A Starbucks outlet in Tawau, Sabah, has been vandalised with the words “#Boikot (Boycott) and Free Palestine” spray-painted on the walls.

The incident was highlighted by the Tawau Sejahtera Facebook page.

Tawau deputy district police chief Champin Putih said CCTV footage revealed that two individuals were involved but the images were not clear.

“The management of Building T2 (where the outlet is located) and Starbucks acted quickly to remove the vandalism,” he told Harian Metro.

“The police are actively tracking down the suspects involved, and if identified, legal action will be taken,” he added.

Previously, Boycott Divestment Sanctions Malaysia (BDS Malaysia) condemned the extreme action of certain parties with regard to boycotts.

BDS chairperson Mohd Nazari Ismail, when commenting on pictures portraying Malays consuming products from brands allegedly linked to Israel as “dogs” and “pigs”, said such acts went against the teachings of Islam.

He also lamented the incident where several men were detained for allegedly provoking and threatening to assault customers at a McDonald’s outlet in Kuantan.

Police said the suspects, who were campaigning to boycott McDonald’s, had hurled insults and slurs at a family who wanted to dine there.

Last month, Berjaya Corp Bhd founder Vincent Tan called on the public to end the boycott against Starbucks, pointing out that 85 percent of Starbucks Malaysia’s employees are Muslims.
