Police have arrested another suspect in the acid attack against national football player Faisal Halim.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the man in his late 30s was arrested in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor late yesterday evening.

“The suspect, a Malaysian, will be remanded at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court this morning,” he said in a statement today.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that the first suspect arrested was in his 20s.

On Sunday, Faisal (above) was sent to a private hospital where he received treatment for injuries sustained from the acid attack at a shopping mall in Damansara, Selangor.

The Selangor FC winger reportedly suffered fourth-degree burns after undergoing the first operation.

The matter was confirmed by Selangor Football Association deputy president Shahril Mokhtar last night, who also said that Faisal’s movement and speech have been slightly affected.

He added that Faisal will undergo at least two more surgeries.

According to media reports, this was the second incident involving a national footballer within three days, after Akhyar Rashid was assaulted in Terengganu last Friday.

While the incident was suspected to be a robbery, Harian Metro reported that two assailants allegedly targeted Akhyar’s legs when they attacked him using weapons that looked like steel batons.
