Mara awaiting full report from cops on MRSM 'paedophilia' case

Mara is still waiting for a full report from the police on an alleged paedophilia case involving a Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) teacher in Tumpat, Kelantan.

According to its chairperson Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, the government agency will wait for the outcome of police investigations before taking any action on the case.

“The police have probed the case and said there are no elements of wrongdoing.

“[However], we will wait for the full report from the police. Any further action (from Mara) will be based on the police probe outcome,” he told reporters after attending a function in Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.

On March 28, a student took to social media claiming the teacher in question was still working at the boarding school despite numerous allegations filed against him.

The girl claimed she and her friends were among the victims of his actions.

Following the allegations, the teacher lodged a police report alleging defamation. He was reportedly suspended pending investigations.

The police later called 14 individuals to record their statements over the case.

Cops pursue accuser

Kelantan police chief Muhammad Zaki Harun said investigations found no evidence to support the student’s allegation and that the accused teacher was of good character.

The police later went after the 24-year-old accuser, to probe her under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, which deals with wrongful use of communication networks.

Asked about a post on the X platform by a user believed to be the accuser saying, “We won the case!!!”, Asyraf said he did not know about the matter.

“I do not know about the post on X. But we must be fair always.

“Our justice system is based on fairness, and fairness must apply to all.”
