Zahid supports Kota Raja Umno's bid for one seat in constituency

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has backed the proposal for the party to be given at least one state seat in the Kota Raja parliamentary constituency in the next general election.

The deputy prime minister stated that the Kota Raja Umno division head Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz’s proposal is aligned with the political reality built on mutual understanding between parties in the coalition government.

"However, we are determined with the understanding mentioned, we hope that for Kota Raja, our partners will see our unity, and that surely out of four (seats), one can be given," Zahid (above, second right) said while officiating the Kota Raja Umno division meeting in Klang today.

Earlier, Zafrul requested that Umno be given one of the four seats Pakatan Harapan previously contested.

The request involves the Kota Raja parliamentary seat and three state assembly seats - Sentosa, Sungai Kandis, and Kota Kemuning.

However, Zahid emphasised that the matter needs to be discussed diplomatically with Harapan allies who lead Selangor.

"Kota Raja is no problem, Zafrul is a friend, asking for one seat is no problem. Let's discuss among friends," Zahid said.

Zafrul vows to maintain unity spirit

Zafrul said if given the opportunity, he guarantees to maintain the spirit of cooperation within the coalition government

"We in Kota Raja Umno have one wish, in the spirit of unity, in front of Harapan friends from the four seats, give one seat to Kota Raja Umno, we are not asking for much, we know our limits.

"I commit that if the seat is given, we will not only do our best but the spirit of unity will make us even more enthusiastic to help all areas under Parliament," he said in his speech to the delegates.

Harapan and Umno first worked together electorally during last year's six state elections.

During that election, Selangor Umno only won two out of the 12 seats it contested.
