National footballer Mohamad Faisal Abdul Halim returned to playing football today, after a three-month hiatus due to an acid attack.
The 26-year-old Selangor FC winger played as a substitute in the match against Kelantan United in the Super League at the MBPJ Stadium, according to a report from Sinar Harian.
Faisal, who played wearing a black mask to protect his facial wounds, replaced Reziq Banihani in the 86th minute.
He attempted to score a header in the 87th minute which hit the crossbar.
Selangor FC won 2-0 and is now in second place in the league behind Johor Darul Ta’zim FC.
On May 5, Faisal was splashed with acid by an unknown individual at a shopping mall in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, causing him to suffer fourth-degree burns.
He underwent four surgeries following the incident and was discharged from the hospital on May 25. He was expected to be out of action for five to six months.
Those responsible for the attack have yet to be arrested.
