The Johor state government will provide counselling for the family of a teacher who was found decapitated in Malacca last December.
State executive councillor Khairin-Nisa Ismail @ Md On said this is to restore the family’s spirits, especially the children of Istiqomah Ahmad Rozi.
“The young children of the deceased need moral and mental support, to face a challenging future without their mother.
“Therefore, I have brought in counsellors from the state’s Department of Social Welfare to assist these children immediately,” she said on Facebook yesterday.
Earlier, Khairin-Nisa, along with state executive councillor Aznan Tamin and Tiram assemblyperson Azizul Bachok spent time with Istiqomah’s family yesterday morning.
“We met with the deceased’s parents, husband, and two of their three children. Conversations with the family, recounting the incident, and their profound sadness, deeply touched us.
“I pray that they persevere and are given strength and that justice is served, with the perpetrator being punished appropriately for such a heinous act,” added Khairin-Nisa.
Yesterday, Alor Gajah district police chief Ashari Abu Samah confirmed the dismembered body, found by the roadside in Tanjung Rimau Luar, Pulau Sebang, Alor Gajah, Malacca, on Dec 31, belonged to Istiqomah (above), 33, who had been reported missing four days earlier.
The body was found decapitated, with both arms and legs missing.
Ashari said the police have detained a married couple in Perak to assist in the investigation, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
However, the 36-year-old wife, who had been remanded since Aug 6, has been released on police bail.
Waiting for DNA results
Ashari said the police are waiting for the DNA test results for the head and fingers that were discovered.
He said the results are expected by next week before the body can be released to the victim’s family.
He said the delay is due to the recent discovery of these body parts following the arrest of the main suspect in the case.
“We are currently waiting for the DNA results of the fingers and head, as well as instructions from the state prosecution director before the body can be removed from the hospital and claimed by the family,” he said.
Ashari also said the police are actively searching for several of the victim’s body parts, believed to have been discarded in different locations by the suspect.
On Jan 6, the media reported the discovery of a woman’s body, decapitated and missing both arms and legs, found in a bin by the Alor Gajah-Tampin road near Kampung Rimau, Pulau Sebang, at around 2pm.
