Umno Youth not PN agent: Akmal

UMNO AGM | Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has denied the wing he leads is an “agent” of Perikatan Nasional.

According to him, the youth wing has assured that although Umno is part of the coalition government, it would always stand by its principles.

“We will continue to champion Malay and Muslim rights, and the position of the Malay rulers.

“You can see and judge for yourselves (from) how much we have bickered with our ‘neighbours’ (coalition government partners),” Akmal (above) said during his speech at the Umno general assembly today.

Akmal also rubbished claims that he is an opposition operative, saying: “Some have even said ‘Dr Akmal is a PN agent’, kelapa hotak dia.”

He further dismissed claims that he is not a team player, questioning how he could get along with partners when their principles clash.

‘We don't bow down to death threat’

Akmal, who is also Merlimau assemblyperson, said in the last year, the Umno Youth had shown a high commitment to championing the Malay and Muslim cause.

“In the past year, without fear or doubt, we have boldly faced many issues that tested the Umno Youth’s credibility.

“At a time when the neighbouring youth (wings) were silent, Umno Youth boldly made noise. When the other parties feared (voicing out on issues), we stood by our principles.

“We fought and will continue fighting for race, religion, and country,” said Akmal.

He highlighted the Allah socks issue in KK Mart, as well as alcoholic beverages company funding for schools as issues that Umno Youth spoke out against.

“Do you remember the Blackrock issue? The local rice supply issue? These are some of the matters we opposed in the past year.

“We fight and we criticise, and we don’t even bow down to a death threat.”
