Sanusi: Join puzzle pieces to see DAP's 'Setapak Declaration' agenda

PAS MUKTAMAR | Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has likened DAP’s agenda to a puzzle, arguing that the pieces cannot be viewed in isolation.

The objective, he claimed, is to use the other parties in the government to achieve the aims listed in the Setapak Declaration of 1967.

With the other parties appearing to be directionless, the PAS leader claimed, that DAP was in the driver’s seat.

“I don’t know what PKR’s struggle is, it doesn’t show.

“The most dominant and whose success in controlling the government is evident is DAP,” Sanusi said when officiating the Muslimat muktamar in Temerloh, Pahang.

“We know what DAP’s struggle is whatever that is mentioned in the Setapak Declaration. What is mentioned (in the declaration) is clear and is in the process of being realised step by step using the other parties,” he added.

The Setapak Declaration refers to DAP’s “viewpoint that in the process of nation-building, ethnic equality must be made the paramount principle, and it is upon this principle that the separation of citizens into bumiputera and non-bumiputera is strongly opposed.”

Upholding Constitution

DAP leaders have repeatedly reiterated the party’s commitment to upholding the Federal Constitution, including the position of Islam and the Malays, but this has not stopped its political rivals from painting the predominantly Chinese party as a threat.

Sanusi said the other parties in the coalition must realise the “fact” that Malaysians perceive DAP as being in control.

“The most successful, the one which profited the most and is the most dominant in the government is DAP,” he added.

Sanusi claimed that while DAP does not make much noise, other parties speak on its behalf.

“Observe closely. That is why I say put the puzzle pieces together, don’t see them as individual pieces,” he added.

Party losing voice

Political pundits have pointed out that while DAP commands the most number of federal seats compared to its allies, it has deliberately retreated into the background with fewer positions to avoid creating the impression that it controls Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.

However, its partnership with Umno, which like PAS had painted DAP in the same light in the past, has been far from smooth.

Conversely, DAP supporters are also upset due to the perception that the once vociferous party is now losing its voice.
