Sue ChatGPT too, Akmal tells 'Nyonya' Teresa

Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has urged Seputeh MP Teresa Kok to sue ChatGPT after the DAP lawmaker blamed the app and media sensationalism over the controversy involving her remark on the halal certification issue.

“Earlier, she blamed me. Now, it’s ChatGPT’s fault.

“This ‘Nyonya’ is hilarious.

“Please sue ChatGPT too. I can’t wait to fight this in court,” he said on Facebook.

Yesterday, Kok told Utusan Malaysia that ChatGPT and the media’s focus on sensationalist headlines caused the brouhaha over her comments.

“When the police were investigating me, they showed me a news report published by a local news portal and my original statement from Facebook. The police asked me by referring to each paragraph in the statement. I’ll be honest.

“My original statement is actually in Mandarin, and I instructed my employee, a Malay who speaks and writes fluently in Mandarin, to translate it into Malay.

“However, because my employee was rushing to go abroad to carry out some duties, this statement was translated using a variant of the ChatGPT translation app because it is faster.

“Certain translated words diverged from the original meaning and we could have been more careful with the words used,” Kok said.

Police were investigating the DAP vice-chairperson over her remarks on the government’s proposal to mandate halal certification in restaurants and food businesses not serving pork and alcohol.

She had also filed legal action against Akmal on Sept 11 for calling her an “old Nyonya” who should not have interfered in Islamic affairs, adding he would ask the government to prepare a non-halal logo to stick to her forehead.
