What did Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin do to help the poor when he was the prime minister, DAP lawmaker RSN Rayer shot a PN component party leader this question.
The Jelutong MP quizzed Malaysian Indian People Party (MIPP) deputy president S Subramaniam who yesterday said it is a “sin” to be rich under the Madani government, due to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s alleged “attacks” on the elite and the wealthy.
In a statement, Rayer said Anwar’s recent statement that the government will not subsidise the education of children from wealthy families would benefit children from poor families by putting the latter on a level platform with their privileged counterparts.
“How many times have we heard about children from poor families being deprived of chances to pursue studies in their chosen field due to their socio-economic background?
“Why can’t MIPP just appreciate and compliment the prime minister’s efforts to close the gap between the rich and the poor?” Rayer asked in the statement posted on Facebook.
Yesterday, Subramaniam alleged that Anwar has pressured the elite and the rich with various allegations that carry the narrative that the group does not care about the government’s development, from his first day as prime minister.

“Anwar’s message is very clear, it is a sin if you become rich under his rule,” Subramaniam told Malaysiakini.
Aside from Anwar’s announcement on education subsidies, Subramaniam also referred to the premier’s comments about the rich being undeserving of diesel subsidies.
‘Coalition of treacherous sinners’
Rayer then trained his gun on PN chief Muhyiddin, who had a short-lived stint as prime minister during the pandemic years.
All the Bersatu president did was announce one Movement Control Order (MCO) after another - putting more misery on the already hard-hit Malaysians, he alleged.

“Malaysians still remember the dark days of MCO when we were all subjected to all sorts of misery after Muhyiddin’s treacherous Sheraton Move.
“We can still remember when Malaysians flew white flags outside their homes if they wanted help from their neighbours, rather than seeking assistance from Muhyiddin’s backdoor government,” Rayer wrote.
Given the facts, it is not a sin to be born rich in Malaysia, but it is indeed a sin to not help the poor when it comes to the pursuit of education, Rayer chided Subramaniam.
“PN will never understand this because it is a coalition of treacherous sinners.”
