Peja defends Azmin over PN's loss in Mahkota

Outgoing Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu defended Perikatan Nasional elections director Azmin Ali, who was blamed for the coalition’s loss in the recent Mahkota by-election.

At a press conference today, he praised the former Selangor menteri besar for his efforts during the by-election, saying it was among the best election machinery he had seen.

“I saw our elections director Azmin prepared a very formidable election machinery for the party.

“In my view, the machinery we had for the Mahkota by-election was also among the best.

“But unfortunately, the results did not favour us,” said Faizal, who is also known as Peja.

Yesterday, a Free Malaysia Today report quoted unnamed opposition leaders, including from Bersatu, blaming Azmin for their defeat in Mahkota.

The by-election saw PN candidate Haizan Jaafar lose by an over 20,000 vote majority to BN’s Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah.

One source in the report claimed Azmin failed to manage PN machinery, and allegedly only depended on those close to him for campaign activities.

Despite that, Faizal said Bersatu has accepted the results and will work harder to improve their machinery.
