S'gor sets up task force to rehabilitate kids rescued from GISBH

Selangor has set up a special task force to rehabilitate children rescued from Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH).

Selangor Islamic Affairs and Innovative Culture exco Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said the task force would comprise representatives from the police, the Social Welfare Department, the Selangor Education Department, the state Zakat board, the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais), and Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais).

"The state government is concerned about the welfare of children found in the care of GISBH recently.

"This task force would also consist of psychiatrists and child education specialists," he said in a statement today.

The task force will first meet on Oct 11 and embark on a six-month rehabilitation programme focusing on religious, welfare, and health issues, as well as the mental and physical development of the children involved, he added.

"This is to ensure that these children can be rehabilitated and reintegrated into society even after the official rehabilitation period of six months," Fahmi explained.

In early September, the police launched Ops Global and raided charity homes across Peninsular Malaysia linked to GISBH, which were suspected of being involved in child and religious exploitation activities.

As a result, 572 victims were rescued while 359 followers of GISBH, including its senior management, were arrested.
