PM's ex-aide claims trial to possessing replica pistols
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s former aide Muhammad Yusoff Rawther has claimed trial to a charge of possessing two replica pistols.
According to Free Malaysia Today, Yusoff pleaded not guilty when the charge framed under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960 was read out to him before magistrate S Mageswary at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court this morning.

He pleaded not guilty when the charge framed under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960 was read out to him before magistrate S Mageswary at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court this morning, Free Malaysia Today reported.
According to the charge sheet, the two replica pistols were found in Yusoff’s possession near the Sanada Kiara condominium at Jalan Bukit Kiara at 9.25am on Sept 6.
The former research assistant could be jailed for a year, fined a maximum of RM5,000, or both.
Yusoff was represented by lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali, while deputy public prosecutor Sabri Othman prosecuted.
The court set Nov 12 for mention of the case.
On Sept 12, Yusoff was charged with trafficking 305g of cannabis, for which he faces a maximum penalty of life in prison and 12 strokes of the cane.
Earlier on Sept 6, Yusoff was remanded for alleged firearms and drug possession.
‘Politically linked’ charges
Rafique had alleged that his client’s detention involved politically linked individuals planting evidence.
On Oct 1, Yusoff filed an originating summons to seek an order to declare Section 41B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which prevents him from being granted bail, as unconstitutional.
The former research assistant came into the limelight on Dec 4, 2019, when he claimed in a statutory declaration that Anwar had sexually assaulted him at the PKR president’s office in October 2018.
On Dec 17 the same year, the plaintiff went to Bukit Aman to undergo a polygraph test over a police probe into his sexual misconduct claims against Anwar.
On May 7 this year, the Kuala Lumpur High Court denied Yusoff’s application to compel the police to disclose the results of his polygraph test in December 2019.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers announced on Jan 14, 2020, that there was no evidence to charge Anwar in the criminal courts over the matter.
Later, in 2021, Yusoff filed a civil action against Anwar at the Kuala Lumpur High Court over the allegation.
