'Big fish': Azam in the dark, but told they're not in syndicate

MACC chief Azam Baki said he had never heard of the three “big fish” that sources told Malaysiakini were behind the medical visa and counter-setting syndicate.

However, he said he was informed that the trio, “Tok Yah”, “DK”, and “Adik” are not related to the scheme.

“I have never heard those names. I have asked my officers to check these names, and this morning they told me they had nothing to do with the counter-setting (syndicate),” he was quoted as saying by Bernama today.

In Malaysiakini’s report, a former immigration officer claimed that Tok Yah or Tok Ayah and DK were the two main masterminds in the syndicate.

Tok Yah was a government official holding a significant position in one of the enforcement agencies.

DK, on the other hand, was a businessperson from Johor.

Adik, meanwhile, is an accomplice of DK’s who lives in Conezion, Putrajaya and acts as an intermediary with the Immigration Department.

The source claimed that the trio were hard to catch because “their ‘hands’ are in every corner” and had contacts in all relevant agencies.

Following the publication of Malaysiakini’s report, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail asked the portal to give him the names of the trio.

Malaysiakini had earlier posed questions to the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission on whether they had identified the masterminds mentioned in the report.

However, the statutory body tasked with investigating complaints of misconduct by enforcement agencies or officers said the matter would be investigated by the special task force formed.
