Subang Jaya councillor cries slander over bribe for garbage allegation

A Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) councillor has denied receiving bribes from thugs to turn a blind eye to an illegal dumpsite in Puchong.

The allegation against Pravin Murali, who is also PKR Youth vice head, surfaced on whistleblower Telegram group Edisi Siasat.

“This is a malicious and slanderous allegation aimed at tarnishing my reputation,” he told Malaysiakini.

Edisi Siasat accused Pravin (above) of ignoring the complaints of residents in Taman Kinrara about large trucks going through their area to dump the rubbish.

The councillor also denied claims that no action had been taken against the perpetrators.

He said that both MBSJ and the Department of Environment had issued a stop work order and cordoned off the site.

Pravin said the matter was also raised at the committee meeting on illegal dumpsites, which was attended by Subang Jaya deputy mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali, the Selangor Religious Affairs Department (Jais), which owns the land, and the land office.

The councillor revealed that MBSJ issued two compounds amounting to more than RM25,000 to the operator. 

Pravin has also lodged a police report against Edisi Siasat.

Last October, MBSJ revealed that it had taken court action and other matters to address illegal rubbish dumping at another site in Puchong, Taman Taman Perindustrian Puchong Perdana.
