A recent exposé on X about a top government-linked company (GLC) executive allegedly given a fat “bonus” despite the company’s non-performance has grabbed anti-graft investigators’ attention.

It was learned that MACC had taken note of the purported leak of meeting minutes from a Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad (PHB) board of directors meeting early this year, where it approved a payout of three months’ basic salary equivalent to RM210,000 to the executive.

“MACC will investigate this issue.

“We are also looking into other issues that allegedly involve this top executive,” said one MACC insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Malaysiakini has reached out to MACC chief Azam Baki for confirmation and further details.

Special payments for 42pct KPI

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported on the purported PHB meeting minutes leaked on X by a user named “Moebius”, which spotlighted a “bonus” paid to a top executive of the company.

The PHB board of directors allegedly approved the RM210,000 payout to the executive despite the company achieving less than half of its key performance index (KPI).

The minutes also showed that a 2.75-month special payment for the company was proposed by PHB’s nomination and remuneration committee despite the company hitting a KPI of only 42 percent, to take into account that there were individuals and teams who had exceeded the targets set for them.

Thus, it was argued that such employees needed to be rewarded to maintain motivation.

However, the committee was also cognisant that it could not call the payout a “bonus” due to the overall poor KPI, hence the term “special payment”.

Besides the “bonus”, the leaker also alleged that the board of directors also approved a revised remuneration package for themselves.

Following the news report, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil told a press conference yesterday that the matter would be brought to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s attention.
