Sabah assemblyperson Rubin Balang said the video showing him talking about business dealings with a whistleblower had no elements of corruption.

However, the Kemabong lawmaker said he would give full cooperation to the MACC if investigated.

“I don’t think there are any elements of corruption in the meeting. I don’t think it needs to be investigated but if the MACC summons me, I will cooperate,” Sinar Harian reported him as saying today.

Yesterday, the whistleblower who claims to have incriminating videos of Sabah assemblypersons revealed a new recording featuring Rubin.

However, the whistleblower told Malaysiakini that he did not bribe the Kemabong assemblyperson in the video. It was a negotiation to use a firm in his children’s name for a mining project after the whistleblower’s earlier licence was rescinded.

During the conversation, Rubin (above) also spoke about other matters.

Among them, he disclosed that Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor granted him “one” when he asked for “two” but is “grateful” nevertheless.

Rubin, who is the chairperson of the state-owned Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco), did not specify what the “one” or “two” were but according to the subtitles, it referred to licences.

Gagasan Rakyat Kemabong Youth information chief Rexy Yankat dismissed the video outright.

“The video actually talks about unconfirmed business dealings. A certain individual had used trickery by bringing someone from the ‘mineral cartel’, posing as an investor, to talk about business opportunities.

“Fortunately, the leader realised the meeting was just a waste of time and could lead to an unsavoury agenda,” he said in a statement today.
