Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim has urged MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki to give the whistleblower, who has video evidence of alleged corruption involving several state assemblypersons, the protection he needs.
Taking to X, he said the chief commissioner should be “unequivocal” and “remove the uncertainties of the immunity” to the whistleblower.
“Here is a citizen who has gone to great lengths to report the corruption of politicians…
“We should encourage the whistleblower to come forward and categorically tell him he has complete protection.
“The attitude of MACC, as reported, is regrettable. If I were the lawyer for the whistleblower, I, too, would ask him not to spill the beans,” he added.
Earlier, Malaysiakini reported that the whistleblower is afraid of reprisal and therefore is seeking a guarantee of protection even before lodging a MACC report.
He said the evidence in his possession, if exposed, could have severe political repercussions and alluded that those who would be affected might attempt to silence him.
The whistleblower said MACC, which has been notified about the videos, was not informed which state the assemblypersons are from.
“I am afraid. When it concerns politicians, even walls have ears,” he told Malaysiakini.

The whistleblower has also appealed to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to intervene and ensure that he is accorded protection.
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that it sighted eight videos, each featuring a different assemblyperson, who purportedly received hundreds of thousands of ringgit to support a company’s bid for a project in their state.
The discussions in the video involved a businessperson, whose face was not visible, requesting the politicians, including those holding senior positions, to return the money since the licence for the project had been rescinded.
