Body in freezer: Pastor charged with mum's murder

A pastor has been charged at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court today over the murder of his mother three years ago.

N Deanesh indicated he understood the murder charge read out to him before magistrate Atiqah Mohamed @ Mohamad Saim.

His plea would only be recorded when the case is transferred to the High Court later.

The 53-year-old accused allegedly murdered Catherine Daniel, 76, at No 35, Jalan Hujan Abu 6, Taman OUG in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, between March 21 and March 26, 2021.

Under Section 302 of the Penal Code, he may either be sentenced to death via hanging or jailed between 30 to 40 years and whipped 12 times.

The magistrate did not allow bail and set Feb 7 next year for a mention of the case.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal prosecuted while the accused was not represented.

On Nov 12, police were alerted to the discovery of a woman's body which had been stuffed in a freezer for the past three years.
