'Reveal MPs who wooed BN to leave govt or be labelled a liar'

Penang PAS Youth said they will consider BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as prone to “lying” if he fails to disclose who purportedly tried to persuade his coalition to leave the government.

Penang PAS information chief Ibrahim Ani expressed doubts about the deputy prime minister’s claims.

He suggested Zahid made the story up to distract from his corruption case which was classified as a discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) by the courts.

He further claimed that this could spell the end of Zahid’s political career.

“If Zahid fails to name the four Perikatan Nasoinal MPs (who allegedly persuaded BN), then Penang PAS Youth will conclude that he has truly succumbed to the habit of lying, just like his political mentor,” Ibrahim (above) said.

The reference to a “political mentor” is believed to allude to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

On Nov 24, Zahid reportedly claimed he was approached by opposition MPs who persuaded him to lead BN out of the federal government to form a new political alignment.

Zahid, who is also the Bagan Datuk MP, further claimed that the individuals suggested the position of prime minister be given to a BN lawmaker.

Opposition lawmaker Shahidan Kassim said today that the issue of persuading BN to leave the government is no secret as it has been publicly discussed often.

The Perikatan Nasional MP for Arau said such calls have been openly made during PN’s political speeches.

‘Failure of Madani govt’

Meanwhile, Ibrahim claimed the public is growing weary of various allegations from the Umno president, believing they are merely distractions from the government’s shortcomings.

“The deputy prime minister and prime minister are increasingly seen as liabilities to the government, especially with various issues, including the recent foreign visits (issue).

“Beyond the DNAA issue, the latest statement from the Umno president is also likely intended to distract from larger issues such as mismanagement and the failure of the Madani government to address the rising cost of living, which continues to burden the people.

“If the Umno president is truthful and courageous in his claims, Penang PAS Youth challenges him to name the four PN representatives who allegedly approached him.

“Stop hiding behind baseless allegations and slander against PN,” Ibrahim said.
