K'tan govt probes organisers, Chinese school over obscene dance

The Kelantan state government has reportedly launched an investigation into a dinner event hosted by a mining company in Tanah Merah last Saturday, which allegedly featured an obscene dance performance. 

Also under scrutiny is a Chinese national-type school (SJKC) in Tanah Merah for allowing its hall to be used as the venue for the event, which is said to have violated state regulations. 

State Local Government, Housing, Health, and Environment executive councillor Hilmi Abdullah was quoted by Berita Harian as saying that preliminary investigations revealed the event was held without an entertainment licence.

“We were informed that most of the attendees were miners from mainland China working in the Sokor mining area in Tanah Merah, along with company employees and external guests. 

“There were also some local attendees, including Muslims, who are employed by the company. 

“We regret the organisers’ actions in providing such entertainment and using a school hall for this purpose,” he said.

Hilmi added that the state government is awaiting a full report on the event while the Tanah Merah District Council has also been instructed to investigate. 

The event, which went viral on social media, has drawn criticism for violating Section 6 of the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Control Enactment 1998. 

The offence of holding an event without a licence carries a fine of up to RM20,000, a five-year prison sentence, or both.
