The Defence Ministry today reiterated its strong stance against all forms of abuse at its training and academic facilities.

This followed the latest bullying and torture allegations implicating the Royal Military College (RMC), Kuala Lumpur, which is a military boarding school under the ministry’s purview.

Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin said they would not tolerate such practices and vowed strict disciplinary action against the perpetrators.

“The Defence Ministry does not tolerate any form of abuse in any institution that comes under its purview.

“Any allegation will be taken seriously and investigated. If found guilty, the individuals involved will be subject to strict disciplinary actions,” he said in a text message today.

Malaysiakini contacted Khaled for his response over a reportedly rampant bullying culture at RMC.

In an exclusive report by Sinar Harian, a student claimed to have been forced to place his feet in scalding water, resulting in burns.

This prompted Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who is an RMC alumnus, to call for a police raid on the school and an investigation.

In a thread on X, he asked if the authorities were waiting for someone to be killed before acting on claims of abuse.

The Defence Ministry has been plagued by controversy due to a series of abuse and torture incidents at its prestigious Military Training Academy, where the Armed Forces send their cadets to undergo basic military courses, while pursuing their tertiary education at the National Defence University, otherwise known as UPNM.

One of the most infamous cases was the murder of Navy cadet Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain in 2017.
