Former UK undersecretary for defence, Ivor Caplin, was detained on suspicion of sexual offences against minors, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti, citing The Sun.

It is noted that a video was circulated online of a man, who identifies himself as Caplin, being handcuffed on the street.

According to the newspaper, Caplin's membership in the ruling Labour Party was suspended several months ago due to unspecified "serious charges" that he denies.

Police confirmed to the newspaper the detention of the 66-year-old on Jan 11 and said they had launched an investigation.

Caplin was a member of the UK Parliament from 1997 to 2005. From 2003 to 2005, he was a parliamentary undersecretary of state at the Defence Ministry.
