After skipping Penang DAP polls, Chow to gun for central post

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has confirmed that he will contest in the upcoming DAP central executive committee (CEC) election.

However, The Star cited Chow as saying it was too early to say if he would accept the DAP chairperson post if he was voted into the CEC and offered the title.

Chow previously skipped the Penang DAP election amid speculation that he did not have sufficient support to be elected into the state committee.

His decision to seek re-election to the party’s central leadership comes amid rife speculation that Chow’s rival - DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng - is also facing diminishing support.

On Wednesday, Penang DAP veteran Phee Boon Poh called for a leadership renewal in the party.

Phee said that while the sacrifices of the Lim family are recognised, many other veteran members have also dedicated everything to the party’s cause.

Phee and several other party veterans, including Tan Kok Wai, Fong Kui Lun, and M Kulasegaran, have decided not to contest in this year’s CEC election.
