Police have launched an investigation into the killing of a puppy in Rawang, Selangor, allegedly by an elderly man who was angry with the dog for stealing food from his house.

This followed a police report lodged by a neighbour who confronted the man and recorded a video of their argument over the dog’s death.

The video clip, which has since gone viral on social media, also shows the man kicking the unconscious puppy several times.

A spokesperson from Gombak district police headquarters confirmed that police have opened a probe under the Animal Welfare Act.

“Investigation is ongoing,” he said, but declined to comment further, saying police will issue an official statement soon.

According to a copy of the police report sighted by Malaysiakini, the incident allegedly happened in Taman Bukit Rawang Putra about 6.45pm on Thursday.

The neighbour said she was alerted to the incident by her son, whom she claimed had witnessed the attacker kicking the puppy.

“When I asked the ‘pakcik’ why he did that to the dog, he told me that the dog had entered his house and taken some food.

“I told him that he was not supposed to act like that and repeatedly asked him, to which he gave the same answer every time. He also repeatedly kicked the dog,” said the complainant, whose name is being withheld.
