Only 44pct of child abuse cases convicted from 2022-2024
Only 44 percent of child abuse cases, which includes sexual crimes, from 2022 to 2024 resulted in convictions in court.
The Home Ministry said the total number of cases reported to the police in that period was 7,677, while the courts convicted the accused in 3,400 cases.

The Home Ministry said the total number of cases reported to the police in that period was 7,677, while the courts convicted the accused in 3,400 cases.
It said this in a written reply released on March 6, responding to a query from Bakhtiar Wan Chik (Harapan-Balik Pulau) who had asked for statistics on such crimes.
According to the ministry, the breakdown of cases and convictions during that period are as follows:
2022: 1,992 cases, 956 convictions
2023: 2,470 cases, 1,164 convictions
2024: 3,215 cases, 1,280 convictions
The cases were investigated under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, the Child Act 2001, and other laws.
