The Education Ministry has criticised a social media influencer for misleading the public by claiming that the national anthem, Negaraku, was sung in Chinese at a school event in Perak.
In a statement, the ministry warned the public against falling for what it described as “malicious slander” intended to sow division and threaten national unity.
“Syawal is a month of victory and a return to purity. Therefore, it should be celebrated with reflection and gratitude, not with deceit and provocation that could destabilise the nation,” it stated.
The ministry clarified that the song performed by the students was not Negaraku, as alleged, but “Allah Lanjutkan Usia Sultan”, the state anthem of Perak.
“This song symbolises loyalty, love, and respect for His Royal Highness the sultan of Perak and upholds the traditions of the Perak sultanate.
“The video also clearly shows that the students and all attendees sang Allah Lanjutkan Usia Sultan in Malay, following the correct lyrics,” the ministry added in a statement.
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that Perak executive councillor Woo Kah Leong condemned the allegation against the Chinese school in Teluk Intan.
Woo emphasised that Chinese national-type schools promote patriotism and love for one’s home state, just like national schools.
He explained that this is why the school’s students and staff sing both the national and state anthems during official functions.
“I welcome those who play on this issue to visit Perak to enlighten themselves, especially when it comes to differentiating between Negaraku and the Perak state anthem,” he added.
