A man is facing intense backlash on social media after choosing to film a child struggling to stay afloat in raging flood waters instead of stepping in to help.

The harrowing incident took place in Kota Masai, Johor, during a heavy downpour.

According to Sinar Harian, a 1.36-minute video that has since gone viral shows a young boy being swept away by strong currents.

Another child - believed to be the victim’s older brother - is seen in the footage sobbing and screaming in sheer panic, begging for someone to save his sibling.

“Allahuakbar... Allahuakbar... Allahuakbar... my little brother, brother! My little brother... I don’t want him to die," he cries in desperation for help.

It is believed the younger boy had fallen into a drain but managed to cling to a piece of wood drifting with the current, which kept him from going under.

Thankfully, the boy was eventually rescued by individuals who arrived later and pulled him to safety on the riverbank.

Despite the child’s rescue, outrage erupted online over the person behind the camera, who chose to record the life-threatening ordeal rather than assist.

Netizens condemned the inaction, calling it a heartbreaking example of misplaced priorities and a lack of basic human decency.

‘Don’t know how to swim’

The sister of the 20-year-old man who recorded the video clarified that her brother recorded the incident as “proof” and that he did not know how to swim.

Norhanum Sabtu, 43, said her brother was on his way to perform Friday prayers when he heard someone calling for help.

She said, after taking the prayer mat and closing the car door, her brother heard someone shouting for him, “Brother! Angah fell into the drain!”

“The incident happened around 1pm when it was raining. The water in the drain was very strong, and my brother said he had warned the child not to play there.

“When the child fell, my brother couldn’t swim and immediately started recording the situation while asking for help,” she added.
