PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil has remained coy over expected discussions by the party’s central leadership council meeting tomorrow, convened amid questions raised over outcomes of the recently concluded division-level polls. 

“You can ask me tomorrow,” said Fahmi when prompted to reveal details of the meeting to be chaired by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim. 

Following the conclusion of the division-level election, some candidates have filed complaints, questioning the integrity of the voting system and alleging the presence of an “invisible hand” meddling in the results.

Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail, who lost her Shah Alam PKR division chief post to Kota Anggerik assemblyperson Najwan Halimi, described the results as “strange” as the majority of her “team members” had won.

The internal situation described as “bodies without a head” also formed the basis of other complaints to PKR’s election committee.

‘Hassan has right to voice opinions’

Fahmi, who defended his Lambah Pantai PKR division chief post uncontested, was also similarly brief when asked for comments on criticisms by PKR veteran, Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim.

“Pak Hassan has many views. He has the right to voice his opinions.

“That is my opinion,” the communications minister told reporters during a press conference after attending the Finas Hari Raya open house in Petaling Jaya. 

Hassan, who had announced his retirement as Pasir Gudang PKR chief, said in a Facebook that some prominent party leaders recently ousted in its divisional polls deserved the axe for their arrogance.

He also claimed the results show the party grassroots’ rejection of political elitists and “cartel politics” in PKR, particularly those who were part of the “Ayuh Malaysia” movement led by the party’s deputy president, Rafizi Ramli.

Among the prominent losers were Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim, and Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasir.

Yesterday, Anwar also sidestepped questions on the PKR polls, and instead chose to serenade journalists with a classic tune, “Tunggu Sekejap”, by the legendary P Ramlee instead.
