Johor Umno Youth backs call for Hishammuddin's return to party

Johor Umno Youth has welcomed the Sembrong division’s proposal to lift the suspension of Hishammuddin Hussein from the party, describing it as a “sincere and constructive” step to strengthen Umno.

In a statement, Johor Umno Youth chief Noor Azleen Ambros said the Sembrong division’s move reflects a broader effort to unite the party, both at the grassroots and national levels.

“The name Hishammuddin is not only deeply rooted and synonymous with the people of Sembrong, but also closely linked to Umno’s legacy and its long-standing struggles,” he said.

Yesterday, Sembrong Umno division chief Abdul Ghani Abdul Rashid said this is the second time in two years they have passed a resolution to lift Hishammuddin’s suspension.

“The stand of Sembrong Umno members is clear: we want the suspension to be lifted unconditionally.

“I hope Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will consider this motion,” said Abdul Ghani.

Noor Azleen said Johor Umno Youth believes the proposal deserves careful consideration by the party’s top leadership, including Zahid.

“Any such proposal – including this latest one from Sembrong Umno – warrants deep and careful consideration,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the central leadership would treat the proposal with the same seriousness as others received from party divisions nationwide.

The call to reinstate Hishammuddin comes amid renewed efforts within Umno to restore internal cohesion ahead of the 16th general election, which must be called by February 2028.
