Probe papers on Pahang royal stabbing case sent to AGC

Pahang police have submitted the investigation paper involving a member of the Pahang royal family who allegedly stabbed a trader to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) on June 23.

Pahang police chief Yahaya Othman said his team is awaiting instructions from the AGC regarding the alleged incident at a Kuantan nightclub.

“We have opened an investigation into this case under Section 324 of the Penal Code, and we have also sent the investigation papers to the AG.

“The AG has returned it for us to complete the investigation, and we have completed the investigation and submitted it back to the AG.

“We are awaiting further decisions from the public prosecutor,” he told the press after an event at the Kuantan district police headquarters.

Yahaya (above) said 13 individuals had their statements recorded to complete the investigation, including the victim, who was called in for identification purposes.

In the early morning incident on May 8, a trader claimed to have been assaulted and stabbed by a group of men, including one believed to be a member of the Pahang royal family, while at a nightclub.

According to a police report that went viral on social media dated June 5, the 30-year-old complainant alleged he was attacked by the group after he “bumped into” the royal family member twice at a different entertainment venue.

On the night of the incident, the complainant, who was with his younger sibling and relative, was invited by a man believed to be an aide to the royal figure to discuss how to resolve the matter.

After an offer to buy beer for the royal family member was declined, the aide allegedly suggested that the complainant give an “angpau” to the royal.

The complainant then handed over RM1,200 in cash.

He claimed he was subsequently taken to a karaoke room to meet the royal and instructed to apologise. It was there, according to the complainant, that he was physically assaulted.

The royal also allegedly stabbed the victim in the buttocks with a folding knife before being stopped by club staff and his bodyguard.

Task force formed over ECRL theft reports

Meanwhile, when asked about thefts reported along the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) train track in Pahang, Yahaya said a special meeting on the matter will be held this Friday (July 4).

He said most of the reports were from project sites in the Kuantan and Maran districts.

“We have set up a special task force to monitor this case, and we have also made suggestions to the ECRL, including installing CCTV in the storage area for construction materials or equipment for their project.

“As we know, the ECRL route is in rather remote or less frequented areas, and we are not sure how long it will take them to install the track in certain areas.

“So, we hope to get cooperation from the ECRL as well... preventing (theft) is better, and we ask for cooperation from the ECRL as well in helping in this matter,” Yahaya said.

Previously, Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd, the main owner of the ECRL project, expressed concern over the recurring cable thefts at their project sites.
