Activist and writer Hishamuddin Rais has been summoned to Bukit Aman over his participation in Saturday's Himpunan Rakyat Benci Rasuah rally in Kuala Lumpur.

According to a short message received from Hishamuddin, the prominent reformasi figure said he received a call from the federal police headquarters earlier today and was told to present himself at Bukit Aman tomorrow for questioning.

"The authorities in Bukit Aman want to record my statement over my participation in the Rakyat Benci Rasuah protest, which took place in Sogo and Dataran Merdeka on Saturday, June 28.

"I will be at the Bukit Aman police headquarters at 11am tomorrow, together with my lawyer from Lawyers for Liberty," he said.

It was reported that about 100 protesters rallied outside the Sogo Shopping Complex at about 2.30pm on Saturday, before marching to Dataran Merdeka through Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman to force the government to hasten promised institutional reforms to eradicate corruption.

The demonstration, organised by Sekretariat Rakyat Benci Rasuah, became tense after a participant lit a flare after a speech at the tail-end of the rally, causing red smoke to engulf the area.
