Shouting match breaks out during Muhyiddin's speech

A commotion broke out at Bersatu’s 8th annual general meeting in Shah Alam tonight, when party president Muhyiddin Yassin sought to address an alleged attempt to collect signatures in a bid to unseat him.

Malaysiakini learned that a delegate shouted “Not true!” in response to Muhyiddin’s remarks during his policy speech, triggering cries of support and subsequent attempts to counter with louder shouts of “Hidup Tan Sri!”

The party’s Armada Brigade intervened to defuse tensions, but to no avail.

At a press conference later, Muhyiddin said the commotion did not prevent him from finishing his speech, but he is unsure what transpired.

“I’m not sure. I was on stage, focusing on my speech. So, I’m not sure what happened, but Alhamdulillah, it did not descend into chaos.

“In reality, I don’t know what happened. We will get a report from our officers.

“Whether it involves a delegate or non-delegate, I’m not sure.

“I was on stage delivering my speech. There was only a little more to go,” he told reporters when asked about the commotion.

Against party constitution

Earlier in his speech, Muhyiddin claimed that there are individuals within the party collecting signatures to oust him as president.

Muhyiddin criticised the act, which he said clearly contravenes the party’s constitution that must be respected by all members.

“They say there are people collecting signatures to bring down the president. This action is against the party’s constitution.

“If the president can be removed through collecting signatures, then everyone on this stage (the leadership) could also be removed the same way.

“Remember, our party has a constitution. It has its rules. Respect the party’s constitution if we want our party to be orderly, proper, harmonious, and peaceful,” he said.

Muhyiddin’s remarks are believed to refer to the internal turmoil within the party ahead of the assembly.

Poison pen letter

Previously, Hang Tuah Jaya Bersatu division chief Azrudin Idris revealed the circulation of a poison pen letter aimed at discrediting Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin.

He claimed the letter went viral in several Bersatu WhatsApp groups, using both local and Thai phone numbers.

Based on a copy of the letter sighted by Malaysiakini, its author accused Hamzah of having an agenda to topple Muhyiddin.
