Fahmi also victim of sex video threat, vows no compromise

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has revealed that he is among at least 10 politicians who have received a sex video threat.

Fahmi said checks found that the threats appeared to have been sent from the same email address and contained similar threats and even similar screenshots of the alleged video, which the minister said was created with artificial intelligence.

In a now-deleted post on X that Fahmi shared, the screenshot of a black and white video showed two men lying together in bed. Fahmi's face appeared to have been superimposed on one of the men.

Fahmi later re-uploaded a censored version of the screenshot.

The email was sent by a person claiming to have been a private investigator who had been following the politician.

Those who received the email were threatened with the release of the video if they did not pay US$100,000 (RM420,000).

According to Fahmi, the politicians who have received the threats thus far are PKR MPs Rafizi Ramli, Wong Chen, Taufiq Johari, Adam Adli Abd Halim; PKR assemblypersons Najwan Halimi and Fahmi Ngah; PKR senator Manolan Mohamad; and Gerakan assemblyperson Wong Chia Zhen.

DAP’s Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister Chan Foong Hin also claimed to have received the threat.

Fahmi said that the government would not compromise on anyone who misused technology to make threats or fool the public.

"The government views the incident seriously, and I have ordered MCMC to work closely with police to trace and track down the criminal who sent these threats through Gmail," he said in a statement.
