Sex video threats snare fifth Harapan leader, US$100k demanded

Selangor state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Najwan Halimi has become the fifth Pakatan Harapan leader to receive a sex video threat.

The Kota Anggerik assemblyperson said he received an email from an unknown account containing a screenshot of a video manipulated using artificial intelligence to show his face.

“In the email, I was also blackmailed to pay US$100,000 (RM420,000) in exchange for preventing the spread of the video,” he said.

Najwan (above) also disclosed that Sungai Petani MP Taufiq Johari was similarly targeted, raising the total number of threatened Pakatan Harapan leaders to five.

The list includes PKR lawmakers Rafizi Ramli and Wong Chen, as well as Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister Chan Foong Hin from DAP.

Najwan described the threat as “a serious criminal act, aimed at endangering my safety and tarnishing my dignity”.

The assemblyperson said he has lodged a report with the MCMC and will also be filing a police report.

“I believe the mastermind behind this threat is using the same modus operandi as those received by Rafizi, Wong, and Taufiq.

“Therefore, I urge the public to be vigilant against any form of fraud or threats on the internet,” he added.

Najwan stressed that the spread of such false and slanderous content “not only tarnishes the dignity of individuals but also poses a threat to the safety and harmony of society.”

Vile act

Yesterday, Rafizi revealed that he had been asked to pay US$100,000 or risk the release of a gay sex video allegedly featuring him.

The former minister said he was informed of the threat by Wong, who received a similar message.

Rafizi said the pair had also received screenshots of the videos in question.

“We shared screenshots. Looks like we’re accused of sleeping with the same man,” Rafizi said.

In a separate statement, Kedah PKR Youth called on the police and MCMC to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The political arena should be a platform for competing ideas and policies in the interest of the people, not a stage for slander or intimidation.

“This vile act represents outdated, immoral gutter politics that runs completely contrary to the spirit of mature democracy we are striving to build.

“It not only humiliates the victims but also tarnishes the nation’s political image and undermines public confidence in the democratic process,” it added.
