New MACC DPP arrested, probed over drug possession

The authorities have arrested a deputy public prosecutor who had just reported for duty to the MACC last week over drug possession suspicions.

The graft buster confirmed the matter in a statement this morning, saying that the deputy public prosecutor was detained at his home yesterday.

“The officer was detained by the police on Sept 23 at his residence, where a search was conducted and substances suspected to be drugs were found.

“We have handed the matter over entirely to the authorities to carry out further investigations and assure full cooperation will be extended,” said the statement.

MACC emphasised that it will not compromise with any misconduct, breaches of law, or criminal acts by any of its officers or staff.

It also said it remains committed to upholding the organisation’s integrity and governance.

Probing substances

Sources disclosed to Malaysiakini that the suspect is a 34-year-old male who recently reported for duty at MACC.

“He previously worked with several ministries as well as with the Attorney-General’s Chamber before he reported for duty (to MACC) recently,” the sources said.

Putrajaya district police chief Aidi Sham Mohamed briefly confirmed to Malaysiakini that the suspect was arrested at his house in Putrajaya.

Earlier, The Star quoted Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Hussein Omar Khan as saying that the suspect will be remanded for three days starting yesterday.

The case is being investigated under Section 12(1) and 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

However, Hussein told Malaysiakini that the authorities are still investigating the type of substances that were suspected to be drugs found at the suspect’s house.
