No minister's question time today as PM called to Istana Negara

PARLIAMENT | The Minister’s Question Time session in the Dewan Rakyat today could not be held after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was summoned to the Istana Negara this morning.

Speaker Johari Abdul informed the house of the matter and requested that the relevant minister table a motion regarding the cancellation of the session.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Azalina Othman Said rose to table the motion, with a backbencher subsequently supporting it.

“This morning we have the minister's question time. Two questions were submitted by (MPs for) Paya Besar and Masjid Tanah.

“However, I was informed that the prime minister cannot attend this morning as the Conference of Rulers has summon him to be at Istana Negara at 10am,” Johari said.

The two questions slated for the prime minister were from Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) and Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (PN-Masjid Tanah).

The Dewan Rakyat proceedings on Tuesday and Thursday usually start with the Minister's Question Time, with Anwar making it a customary practice to attend and answer questions on Tuesday.

Questions on Trump, Visit Malaysia campaign

Shahar had sought the prime minister’s response on Malaysia’s position regarding US President Donald Trump’s proposed peace plan on the Palestine-Israel conflict, and how far it aligns with Malaysia’s principles and efforts in defending the rights and sovereignty of the Palestinian people.

Mas Ermieyati’s question is on the government’s level of preparedness for the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign, particularly on international promotion, cooperation with state governments, whether spending follows the “value for money” principle, and if a grand launch is planned for Dec 31, as done previously.

Johari said both questions will be rescheduled for another sitting.

“For Paya Besar and Masjid Tanah, whose questions were meant for the prime minister, I will adjust them to another date,” he added.

The Dewan Rakyat session then continued with the regular oral question-and-answer segment.
