Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has announced that state civil servants and GLC staff will be allowed to work from home during the upcoming 47th Asean Summit, which will take place from Oct 26 to 28.
In a statement today, Amirudin (above) said the flexibility was granted in light of expected heavy traffic in the Klang Valley following the arrival of foreign delegates - beginning today and the temporary closure of several major roads in Kuala Lumpur.
“To ensure that public services continue smoothly while easing the travel burden on civil servants affected by traffic congestion, the state government has decided to allow state officers and GLC personnel to work from home.
“They may apply to their respective department heads for consideration,” he added.
‘Consider employee well-being’
Amirudin also encouraged private companies to offer similar flexibility to their employees if their operational systems allow it.
“The state government urges the private sector to consider this measure to ensure employee well-being and prevent them from being unduly affected by traffic disruptions during the Asean Summit hosted by Malaysia,” he added.

Among the main roads affected by road closures around the Kuala Lumpur city centre include Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Pinang, Jalan Binjai, Persiaran KLCC, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Parlimen, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Imbi, Jalan Damansara, Jalan Istana, Jalan Kuching and Jalan Perak.
On Oct 14, Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan said KL city centre will be completely closed in conjunction with the gathering of regional and global leaders, including an expected participation by US President Donald Trump.
Mohamad said 16,000 police officers from across the country are involved to assist and ensure smooth traffic flow.
